02 // What a flexi-job is

Earning on the side without most of it disappearing.

A flexi-job is extra work alongside a main job or a pension. The employer pays a separate contribution, and you keep far more of the gross than you would from ordinary extra work.

The exact conditions and amounts are set in law and indexed. Check your own situation against an official source before you sign.

Conditions on employment.belgium.be
  1. 01

Your main income is the starting point

A flexi-job sits on top of something else: a job of at least four fifths with a different employer, or a pension. Without that, no flexi-job.

  2. 02

There is a quarter of lag

Eligibility is judged on a quarter that has already ended. So you can start today on the strength of work you did months ago.

  3. 03

    Paperwork first, not afterwards

You sign a framework agreement with the employer, and every shift is declared before you start. That is the employer’s job — but it is worth checking it has been done.

  4. 04

    Paid per shift

Flexi pay is paid with holiday pay already included. The hourly rate you agree is what you get, not a figure something else comes off later.

04 // What you earn

Net is close to gross.

On a flexi-job you keep far more of the gross than on ordinary extra work, because you pay no personal social security contributions. The employer pays a separate contribution instead.

Outside hospitality the sector minimum for the role applies. That differs per joint committee, so the figure in a listing should at least meet it.

Since the 2024 reform, flexi income above an annual ceiling is taxable. Worth knowing if you plan to work a lot of them.

What people ask.

Does Flexuur cost anything?

Not for jobseekers. Searching, browsing and applying are free and will stay free. Premium is optional and adds alerts and extra filters. Employers post for free.

Do I need an account to search?

No. You can see every listing without one. An account is only needed to apply or to save a job.

Do you check employers?

We verify each employer’s company number. A verified company gets a label on its listings. That says the company exists and is active — not that it is a good employer. The reviews are for that.

Who can review an employer?

Only someone who actually worked there. Your application has to reach "hired" before you can leave one. Reviews are shown without a name, noted as coming from someone who worked there.

What if a listing is wrong?

Report it. We take down listings that fall below the minimum wage, that are not really flexi-jobs, or that are vague about the hours.

What happens to my data?

Your CV and details are visible to the employer you apply to, and to nobody else. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time.
